Keyholders

An ADT monitored home security system is connected via a telephone line to our Alarm Receiving Centre, where teams of highly trained staff monitor signals 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

When the alarm system is activated our Alarm Receiving Centre will attempt to contact the home owner, if the owner can not be contacted the keyholder will be contacted.

What is a keyholder expected to do?

If you are called by our Alarm Receiving Centre they will tell you the type of alarm (Intruder, Fire, Personal Attack etc) and whether we have called the Gardai or Fire Brigade.

You may need to go to the property and if the Gardai or Fire Brigade have been called wait for them to arrive. Never put yourself at risk, do not enter the property if the Gardai or fire services are attending, until they advise you to do so.

Keyholder instructions

  • The correct entry/exit route
  • How to unlock the property
  • Where the alarm panel, keypad and proximity reader are located
  • How to set and unset the alarm
  • The System Code. This can be their own code if it is easier to remember
  • The password for the alarm or their own Verification Number to identify them when on the property
  • The telephone number of the ADT Alarm Receiving Centre
  • The telephone number of ADT's Service Bureau, to request an engineer
  • How to contact the homeowner
  • Where the log book is kept
  • How to reset the alarm
  • How to lock up again

Being a keyholder is easy. Keep the keys and keyfob to the property in a safe place and ask to set & unset the alarm when you next visit the property.

If your details change

If you are moving home or change your contact number please make sure the home owner tells our Alarm Receiving Centre so we can update our records. If you move further than 20 miles away you may no longer be able to act as a keyholder, please call our Alarm receiving Centre if you are unsure.

False Alarms

If you are called to a false alarm the system can be reset as normal if the cause is identified as a customer error, if it is not clear why the alarm has activated then you may need to request the attendance of an ADT engineer. Thinking of getting an alarm for your home?
