Helpful Home Security and Safety Tips
Fire Safety – Planning an escape route
In the event of a fire, there is usually no time to stop and think of the best thing to do. Half a minute after the smoke alarm goes off, an entire floor of your house could be filled with dense smoke. Be prepared with a well planned escape route.
- Make an escape plan to ensure that you and everyone in your home know what to do if there is a fire.
- Involve everyone – including children, older or disabled people and any loggers, when making the plan.
- Test it, practice and makes sure everyone, including children, know what to do in an emergency.
- Choose a second escape route, in case the first one is blocked.
- Switch off the cooker, unplug appliances, put candles and cigarettes out properly, switch off heaters and shut doors as a part of your bedtime fire prevention routine.
- Allways keep escape routes free from obstacles.
